  1. WOW! and I thought I was the oldest dude on this here planet... Man, you are really digging up bones...

The Burger Boat Co. was in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, off the shores of Lake Michigan some 80 miles north of Milwaukee. During the Civil War they made a name for themselves with the production of a small, 20' - 30' "Mackinaw fishing boats" (the Mackinaw hull design of which is still very popular today). Their very first motor launch was a custom built 85' cruiser,  named "VERNON JR."  This vessel was built for a dude named Vernon (who no doubt, was a JR.) out of Chicago and was launched in 1901. Although there was really only one "Vernon JR" - as a result... and popular demand, within ten years, the company had built several "Vernon Jr" copies in the 85 - 100' range - most were operated on the Great Lakes and all of course were wooden cruisers.

The company is still in operation today... and builds custom yachts.
