Has anyone ever heard of a male puppy developing two sets of testicles?

His testicles dropped at about 7 or 8 weeks, which I thought was normal. Now he is 7 months old, and he's starting to develop another set of testicles about 1/2 inc he above his originals. I'm really freaked out! I just discovered this, and can't wait to hear back from the Vet. Please, if you've ever heard of this let me know the details. His name is Johnny, and he is a purebred Staph shire/red nose pit bull.Thank you so much!

  1. if U were palpating his testes, it is also possible that it is an associated gland - or i would wonder abt a fluid-filled cyst.

but the vet is the proper info-source on this one -

it requires an exam + knowledge of the anatomy, it may be normal or not, but we cannot evaluate him un-seen - even after examining him, we might not know what this is.

possibly a simple exam will answer all worries -

or perhaps a needle-biopsy is in order. but the vet will be able to tell U what's going on...  try to stay calm til then, and keep the pup as normal as possible, eating, drinking, as playful as he can be without too much jumping or rough play with other dogs.

    hope he's just fine!

  2. its Staffordshire.... and ive never heard of it, could be tumors, fatty deposits, or many things.

  3. I have never heard of it myself. Has he been examined by a vet? That's the only way to tell for sure what's going on there.

  4. It's probably not another set of testicles.  This is a common fear in first time male puppy owners.

When a dog is excited (and puppies can't always physically tell the difference between happy excited and sexually excited, they swell up at the base of the p***s.  The swelling looks like two roundish protrusions from each side of the p***s.

Now, the p***s is actually hidden by the sheath... the part of the male anatomy you can see and touch is the sheath, which houses the p***s.

When a dog is breeding, the p***s comes out of the sheath, and the swelling acts as a mechanism to create the `tie`which holds the dogs together while the ejaculation and contractions are completed.

In a young dog, they get excited and these knobby things swell while still inside the sheath, making it look like a second set of testicles.

I remember my first male dog, when I saw these, I though he was trying to pee out a HUGE bladder stone and I called the vet in a panic!

  5. maybe it's a fungus or, a possible genetic disorder.

where did you get your dog? that would be useful info too.

  6. Your vet will be able to tell you. I have never heard of this happening before though.
