Has anyone ever hooked up their imac to their large LCD tv?

I want to use it as a home theater source. I have hooked up the sound from my imac to a receiver once using a 3.5mm to RCA adapter and was very disappointed with the sound. The imac is on one side of the room and the other equipment will require about a 35 ft run. I know i need to buy the little adapter for the back of the imac to go from mini to VGA (i would do DVI but my TV doesn't have a DVI input) so, any ideas or experience with this would be great before I drop the money on the wires and do all the work.

Thanks

  1. It depends on the Macintosh.

When I connect my 2 year old G5 flatpanel it is not very good video quality - it can only connect using an analog (composite) connection.

When I connect my newer CoreDuo iMac flatpanel or 3 year old G4 PowerBook using a 15 pin xGA monitor cable, it is awesome...

... connecting to a 42 inch Panasonic plasma...
