I am moving there soon to be with my fiance and get married. I am a little nervous but he says it is beautiful. I trust him, but all that he tells me is from his point of view and he more or less grew up there.

What good places are there in San Jose or Alajuela?

  1. Ok, here's a girls point of view... the good the bad and the ugly ...lol... it depends on your expectations and lifestyle. If you're used to the finer things in life... it'll be a rough change... if you're more down to earth... you'll be fine in Alajuela. This country is beautiful and very laid back which sometimes takes getting used to... there's a good chance you'll get annoyed from time to time because its a cultural thing to be late and procrastinate,... there is such as thing as TICO TIME!  There's no such thing as customer service...hehehe. Also, be very afraid of drivers... most have purchased their licenses...heh. Let's see what else... there's always a holiday or random day to celebrate, which means...party!

As far as the question good places... what do you mean... it's not full of crime if that's what you're asking... Alajuela is still pretty rural....down town San jose, like any other down town is sketchy.  But, once you get here, interact with the "ticos" and travel to the mountains and beaches... I can almost guarantee you'll never want to leave!! So, bienvenida a Tiquicia!!!!! Te esperamos!  :)

  2. It may take some time to adjust but you will be fine.

CR is a wonderful country and at this time I envy you because I wish I was moving down there but I am fortunate that my family lives there & I can visit whenever I want.  People are very laid back and do not run around crazy like people do in the States.  When I go to Llobet in Alajuela (Department Store in Alajuela) I can't believe how the sales ladies are huddled in a corner talking while one is waiting for them to assist you.  If we were in lets say JC Penney's that wouldn't happpen. There's always town festivals or my favorite are the Topes. During Xmas I have fun going to Zapote fiestas.  It's in no way, shape or form a boring country.

Ticos love to have fun.  The countryside and Beaches are amazing.  Not only that, CR is becoming "westernized" due to all the tourists.  Hello- they even have a Hooters in San Jose! lol  Take care and I wish you the best of luck !!

  3. Communities west of San Jose are most appealing to foreigners living here (mainly Escazu, Santa Ana) . They have warm weather and all the conforts and conveniences you find in the US.  Others like mountainous areas to the north , in Heredia, quieter, cooler  and with large lawns.

Don't worry, you will love it !!

  4. Enamorada, Trust him because Costa Rica is wonderful

    Specially Heredia and San José.

Good places are many but it's large to explain, Go to Wikipedia or a web page where you can get information

    Enjoy Costa Rica!

  5. just lay back and enjoy the show...  this piece of land has lots of amazing things people enjoy
