  1. Yes - Bobo Holloman in 1953. He pitched for the St. Louis Browns in their last season in St. Louis before they moved to Baltimore. He threw the no-hitter against the Philadelphia A's.

  2. Bobo Holloman has

And the part I had to look up was his team

The St. Louis Browns in 1953

  3. Back on October 15, 1892, Bumpus Jones of the Cincinnati Reds threw a no-hitter in his first major league appearance.  He beat the Pirates 7 to 1 giving up 4 walks and an unearned run due to an error.

Jones career consisted of 8 games over 2 seasons.  He finished with a 2 and 4 record and a 7.99 ERA in 41 2/3 innings.

  4. I think Juan Marichal threw a one or two hitter in his debut.

  5. I don't believe so.

  6. Not in the era of modern Major League Baseball.

  7. Holloman is the closest answer to what you have asked. He pitched a no-hitter (Browns 6-0 over the Philadelphia A's) on 06-May-1953 in his first major league start, but it was not his first game. He made his debut in relief on 18-April.

Wilson Alvarez threw a no-hitter in his second start, on 11-August-1991 (White Sox 7 - Orioles 0), and he'd probably prefer to forget his first. That came two years earlier when he started for the Rangers against the Blue Jays and didn't record an out, serving up a single, two homers, and two walks to five batters on 24-July-1989.

Clay Buchholz threw a no-hitter for the Red Sox in his second game/second start on 01-September-2007 (one year ago today), blanking the Orioles 10-0.

So, several have been very close, but no one has debuted on day one in such spectacular fashion.
