Has anyone ever put a collar on their bird to stop feather plucking?

I have tried everything to get my blue crown to stop plucking and nothing has worked so far. My vet gave us some tubing to use as a collar around his neck so that he cannot reach his feathers to pluck. I put it on him last night for about an hour and sat with him. He freaked out a little but calmed down quickly. He is a very friendly bird and was happy being cuddled and so he didn't bother it too much after a few minutes. I took it off so he could sleep and put it back on this morning. Again, he seems to be doing okay...it's annoying him a little, but he is getting more used to it. He doesn't seemed stressed, which is what I was most worried about. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried this tactic and had good luck with it. Opinions of experiences are greatly appreciated!

  1. Yes, it's commonly dispensed by avian vets to stop feather-plucking in pet birds -- although it's usually used only in severe cases. Most birds don't like it, although they will tolerate it fairly well after they get used to it, and it's very effective at stopping feather-plucking -- it's sort of a physical medicine, actually. I've seen so many of those things being used at parrot shelters.

  3. If you pet is plucking his feathers it means he's depressed or bored. You have to spend more time with your pet ad try to figure out what is bothering him.collars may help but he cannt wear a collar forever and it may be very annoying to him.
