Question:

Has anyone ever received a scratcher in the mail that turned out to be a scam?

I received a scratcher in the mail from a local auto dealership (from where I had bought one of my cars some years ago) along with a letter. According to the letter, there is no purchase necessary, and everyone who received one is a winner of one of the six different prizes, from digital cameras to a grand cash prize. The official rules and odds of winning are on the back of the scratcher, as well as a statement claiming the existence of a winners list. It seems legit, and I'm thinking what have I got to lose by driving over there and showing them my scratcher? But how do I know if it's a scam? I don't want to be an idiot and not pick up a cool prize, but I also don't want to be an idiot and show up and come back with nothing. What should I do?

  1. Any scratcher that you didn't pay for is a scam, you might get something for it but there will be a catch
