  1. Which airport are you flying into and which part of Germany do you like to see? If you post this we could give you adresses of companies which rent out campervans. The way I know it you need to reserve your rental van in advance - you can't just waltz in and rent one, because although there might be one standing there it might be needed tomorrow or the day after. (This is especially true in September in and around Munich because everything is booked due to Oktoberfest.)

  2. I never do that, but it's like rent a car, just you want a van for camper. There will be any problems and also they are in good shape. Don't worry.

  3. Rent something that is listed as holding more people than are actually going - if there's two of you, get a van that sleeps four, if you are four, one that sleeps six (if you can afford).

You didn't say whether you have any experience with this kind of holiday. In any case, make sure you get a proper explanation of what goes where (fresh water and petrol tank - not to be confused). And september can still be quite busy, so maybe call the places where you want to stop and reserve a space.

And something that may sound very simple, but I found the best advice: Pack some type of Birkenstocks or flipflops if you'll be using the common showers on camp grounds. I forgot mine, so had to use my boyfriend's, which meant we couldn't take a shower at the same time so took a longish time getting started in the morning.

    Enjoy your trip!

PS: Read up on what speed limits apply for you. Many people who come to Germany have heard all kinds of myths about the autobahn and allegedly no speed limits. That's not true, there are limits for certain kinds and parts of roads, as well as  limits depending on what kind of car you drive.

  4. No, only a tent.

  5. I did it once. It was soo expensive. It would be much cheaper to go by car and stay in hotels.

The streets and parking lots are way smaller than in the states!
