  1. Yes I have.My friends horse was so fat you could use her rump for a table and it had a built in cup holder, and she had fat pockets all over her mostly on her rump and she looked like she had one of those stud necks.Vet had her put the horse on limited pasture turnout and cut her grain.

  2. i rode a horse for some peoplee and i told them after the ride that if they didn't Quarintine her in a limited Pasture area she was going to be dead in the next 6 months.  She is litterally ready to drop dead from laminitis she is so fat.  it was liek sitting in a high rocker chair.

  3. That horse looks pretty obese to me: http://www.horsedata.co.uk/GeeGees/The%2...

I'm not familiar with cow's conformation, so I don't think I could say that a cow is fat with the rest of it's body size. I don't really know what an ideal cow should look like lol =D

  4. I've seen an obese horse and it was horrible. I felt bad for it because our horses were just leaving it's butt in the dirt and it was just exhausted. I ended up pulling the owner aside and telling them that when their horse drops dead from laminitis that the only person they can blame was themselves. For whatever reason they thought it was acceptable to feed the poor thing a bags worth of treats in a few days not to mention overfeeding it horribly by a scoop at least. They are lucky the horse didn't colic to death! Luckily they realized I was serious and now have the horse on a a restricted diet, no treats, vitamins and one hour of exercise 5-6 times WEEKLY.

  5. Yes, obesity is prevalent in the showring.

It is a common misconception that a layer of fat can disguise poor conformation.  That's a load of rubbish, and any judge worth his salt can see poor conformation from a mile off.  Also, "show fit" is very different to "racing fit", and people tend to allow their horses to get fat rather than fit - simply because they don't understand what "show condition" actually means.

Anyway - yes, there are lots and lots of obese horses around.

  6. what D:

if there was an obese horse or cow

it would probably collapse from the extra weight it would need to be called obese in the first place

  7. Yep my neighbours bought a horse that tricked everyone even the vet before he gave her a thorough look at her into thinking she was about to give birth. She wasn't even pregnant :S

  8. yes i have. i have brought them in and got the nice and FAT!

  9. I have seen an obese horse. My family and i own/show/breed miniature horses, and we had bought a mini back in september named Bahama. We bought her because of her beautiful color and amazing bloodlines. When we bought her, she was about 4-5 months pregnant, and they usually don't start showing their pregnancy until like 7 months. Well, when we bought her, she was as big as a mare ready to foal! But on Feb. 23, a tradegy happend, and she lost the baby. This really had an effect on her weight loss. The previous owners had her on cow feed, and she was pastured with their cows. I used to call her our little cow (: Which is funny because i always talked about wanting a miniature cow. haha.

Here are some Before and After pictures. Before pics were taken in Septmeber of 2007. After pictures are in May of 2008.

  10. I've seen many...it's common with horses that are insulin dependent as they age....most you see are kept on pasture and not wearing grazing muzzles.  They get this fat on grass alone.

  11. yes I have seen an overweight horse. A Missouri Fox Trotter.  She foundered and lived for a few more years then had to be put down

  12. Yes I have. It tends to cause foundering and several other health issues.

  13. Yes i have, My horse used to be obese but after alot of exercise and a diet he's just pleasantly plum now.

  14. Yes, I have.  It's usually because they are fed "hot food" meaning corn, oats, etc when that should be a secondary and limited food source.  It is extremely bad for them because they get weak legs and bad feet.

  15. ive seen an obese horse before, its absolutley pathetic. i felt so bad for the poor thing. and i think all cows are obese haha but thats just my opinion. and how on earth does a goldfish get obese?

  16. YES, I've seen obese horses, normally just shortly before they founder!

  17. Yup, I've seen a few. One mare I knew was so obese it looked like she had a "stallion crest" along her neck. If you'd like more info, There's a few websites that have a grading scale for the body condition of horses.

I've never seen an "obese" cow before, though. I think these days dairy farmers have feed rations down to a science for optimum milk production, thus eliminating the possibility for obesiety. As for beef cattle, they're let out to graze for months at a time. They get enough excercise going from place to place that they don't really get obese.
