Has anyone ever seen tiny clear greenish worms in a pets self watering bowl?

My friend had one of those circulating water bowls for her dog and cat. She was cleaning it out and found tiny greenish clear worms in the filter. I have tried searching the net with no luck. Any ideas?

  1. If the waterer is outdoors, I would guess mosquito larvae.  The bad thing about self-waterers is that people don't empty and change out the water as often as they would if it were a regular bowl or bucket that gets emptied daily.

Your friend needs to empty the entire system and flush it with a mild solution of bleach and water, and routine maintenance of it should include a complete water change every couple of days.  You'd be surprised how fast mosquitoes and other flying insects will add their eggs to a waterer.

  2. Could be that, or maybe one of her pets is infected with some sort of parasite?

I hope more people answer this question.

But the other person is right, don't neglect the cleaning of the self-waterer.
