  1. My friend stayed in Astor College and had very few complaints about the place, although she was on the ground floor in the accomodation for couples.

I stayed in Ramsay Hall, which is five minutes away, and to be fair, all UCL students halls are pretty similar. The rooms are nothing special - basic furniture, not huge - but once you have all your stuff in there and 'make it your own', it feels a lot more homely. (You'd be surprised what a rug, some posters, plants and fairy lights can do!)

Bathrooms are shared, but you do have a sink in your room. They're cleaned daily and if you go at certain times (when people are at lectures, very late at night), you can usually have the place to yourself.

Kitchens are, as you'd imagine, basic as well. There's usually two ovens / hobs, two microwaves, fridge, kettle, toaster, etc - but you'll need to bring your own plates, pans, glasses, which I suggest you keep in your room. Kitchens are cleaned daily, which is good because not all students know how to tidy up after themselves! You can cook in them quite happily.

Obviously all halls have security and swipe card entry so they're really safe. Noise can be a problem, depending on your neighbours, but that never bothered any student I know!

The best thing about Astor College is the location. Charlotte Street is a pretty tree-lined street in the heart of Bloomsbury, within walking distance of all UCL buildings, Tottenham Court Road, Soho, Holborn, Oxford Street and Covent Garden. There are so many bars, restaurants, pubs and shops - you'll never be bored - and there are supermarkets and chemists etc nearby. It's quite safe at night, because it's so busy, but it's not that expensive to get a taxi home from anywhere in central London.

If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to answer them :)
