I am going on a the Carnival Ecstasy cruise ship to Cozumel next month and I was just wondering if anyone else has taken this cruise before. I've cruised to the Bahamas but never to Cozumel, so does anyone know any cool places to go to like shopping, eating, entertainment...No bars really, since i'm only 20. Any information about the cruise would be great?

  1. Cozumel is alot of fun.  We did the power boat excursion when we were there in July.  All of the shops are right at the port and very easy to get to.  They have tons of stuff to do.

Just nego your taxi ride costs before getting into a cab, is what I have heard.

Go to carnivalconnections.com.  Sign up for a free account and then go to cruise talks.  They have all sorts of forums for each ship.  We were on the Conquest so I dunno what the Ecstasy is like, but I am sure you will have a blast.

  2. this site has feedback from past cruisers - http://allcruiselines.info/

  3. We cruised with a group of 19 guests on the Ecstasy in 2006 and we have visited Cozumel on several other cruises.

The Ecstasy is OK...she is smaller and a bit older but still a fun ship.

There are two types of shopping on Cozumel...the "mall" type shops and the open air markets (like flea markets).  If you want to deal and bargain, avoid the mall and go with the smaller shops on the main street.  There is also some good bargains to be had in the shops and stands at some of the docks.

Bargaining is a part of the shopping experience so don't pay the posted price or even the first price reduction they offer.  I often tell them I only have the exact amount of cash that I want to pay....Take along plenty of $1, 5 and 10 in US dollars for shopping and taxis while in port.

There are tons of things to do in Cozumel.  From dolphin experiences, parasailing, etc.  We enjoyed the Cavern by Jeep tour but you take the ferry to Playa de Carmen and you don't really have any time to explore/shop in Cozumel when you do this excursion.

The Playa Mia Deluxe Beach break was great...a beach w/snorkeling, paddle boats, iceberg, lunch buffet, pool, and open bar.  Something for everyone.

The submarine ride was kinda of a drag.

  4. I haven't cruised on the Ecstasy, but I have cruised to Cozumel.  It's a great port for beaches.  Some people enjoy the shopping, but it can be a hassle, as the shopkeepers tend to pressure you.  If you go back a block or so from the main drag - which is often mobbed with cruisers - it's more interesting and the prices can be better, too.

Coz is very easy to do on your own.  Don't do a ship excursion unless there is something extra-special offered or if you decided to go to Tulum.

Chankanaab Park is really nice [see their website], although some people love Paradise Beach [website] or some of the other beaches south of town.

Go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Boards", then "Ports of Call" for lots of great info from experienced cruisers.
