We have a 8 yr old and a 5 yr old and would like to find a good family vacation. We've never been on a cruise before and are not sure if this is a good idea.

  1. Princess by far. think about when they swabbed the Disney cruiseship for fecal matter, then decide.

  2. I have a few friends who went and they all loved it! They said it was the best vacation ever, my kids are the same age as yours, I personally don't really like cruises but still myfriends told me I should do this one if any. It is very pricey too! $10.000 for a family of four by the time you include everything, I rather go to a nice all inclusive.

  3. i went on a disney cruise in 3rd grade, it was awesome!!! i loved it, there were so many things to do!!!

  4. Probably a good idea, but it depends.

Do your children like the Disney brand?

    Other things to consider:

On a cruise you spend a lot of time with the same people, including those people that come with you.  So be sure you enjoy the company of the people you're going with (that's probably the best formula for having fun on a cruise)

Cruise ships can get old, and fast.  Once you explore the ship, its, well, explored.  You'll also find the "good" places (like the 2 or 3 hot tubs on the ship) tend to fill up rather quickly.  Ports that cruise ships harbor in are just giant shopping centers and leave you very little time to do anything except buy something and come back, so if you go for more than 3 days, I'd recommend booking excursions or activites, even though it will cost you extra.  It will add variety and get you off the boat and also put you in a smaller, more personal and intimate setting away from the horde of people on there with you.

Disney cruises will have more activities - all with the Disney stamp of approval - catering towards children.  For example, on one of the Disney cruises I went on they had a musical where all the major characters from all the various movies came out and sang modifications of their songs together.  (that was pretty cool actually), and there will be Disney characters walking around then and now, just like at DisneyWorld (but no rides)  That also means less activities for adults - especially young, outgoing adults who prefer an active nightlife.

food, food, and more food, all free.  Every cruise ship is like this, including Disney.  So be ready to eat.

    Okay, hope that helps!
