Has anyone ever thought of this? If you get hit by a train and your head gets choped off do you think you?

If you get hit by a train and your head gets choped off do you think you can still think at the last second? I asked myself this and I couldn't figure it out.

  1. Only one way to find out!

  2. yes, the brain cotinues thinking aproxmatley 8 seconds after it is chopped off

  3. I asked myself that before.. i think we can think... per exemple, chickens can still run and stuff, without their heads for a few seconds...

  4. An intrigued doctor did some experiments in France, when they were so busy lopping peoples heads off with a guillotine.  He shouted peoples names at their heads after they were chopped off to see if they reacted or looked in his direction, and many apparently did for up to 8 or 9 seconds after their heads had parted company with their bodies!

  5. what i can't figure out is your question

  6. I still think when my head got chop off, and now I was lucky enough to put it back in time.

  7. no ... you dead!

  8. If you get hit by a train, your brain will be physically destroyed at the moment of impact, so no you would not be able to think.

If however your body is hit, but your head receives no physical impact, and is simply cut off, then you would be concious for a few seconds while the oxygen supply lasts.  It would only take seconds for you to lose conciousness, but you would be there for those few seconds...

  9. Even though the brain would still function about 8-10 seconds after decapitation, this would not happen in a train accident.  The train impact would be so severe that the concussion would knock a person out a split second before death.

  10. If everyone treated trains in the same way they would treat a rattlesnake no one would ever have first hand knowledge of that of which you speak...........but I'll hazard a guess.

When someone is dismembered by the wheels passing over an appendage, the body part severed isn't sliced off, as a meat slicer in your neighborhood delicatessen.  It is mashed off.  If cut cross-grain, there is suprisingly little blood as the vessels and arteries are closed by the extreme pressure.

It therefore follows that if the head is removed at the neck, in a cross sectional fashion, the extreme pressure would increase the pressure in the brain and immediately blow it to pieces, from within.

Stay out of the way.  The train can't turn to avoid you.

  11. Supposedly, in the guillotine era, after a head was chopped off, the eyes would blink for several seconds. Your brain can survive for 4 minutes without oxygen, so....

  12. Good question, but I would not want to try and test it out.  I like me head where it is.

  13. you would black out on impact
