That what you were going to school for was 'stupid' or 'you won't make any money', such as Art, Dance, Graphic Design? If so, what do you say to these people? It gets me down, but at the same time, I don't want to major in something like Nursing or Criminal Justice that I DON'T have any interest in. I want to go back to school next semester and major in something like maybe 'Humanities' or 'Liberal Arts'.

  1. I feel your pain...When people say things like that to you its either about their own fear of failure or  a kind of jealousy that you're brave enough to go for what you want instead of whats safe like what they're doing.I'm not gonna lie to you and say it's an easy path to follow.I was a fine arts major and a strong individual which worried the h**l out of my parents cause they were thinking that I'd be doomed to failure unless some nice man decided to marry ( read : rescue) me from a life of being a pauper.A lot depends on your personality and your ability to stand strong in the face of  adversity. What I mean by that is if you're outgoing and comfortable socializing that will  help you network with lots of people to get art related work. Also try to get as much info out of your teachers & people working in the field that you want  to go into. They'll give you the real scoop about how things work.In a thriving economy a liberal arts degree used to be a valuable thing because it could be useful in many diverse employment situations such as a gallery, writing, teaching, politics & marketing. As far as people trying to scare you off about liberal art or humanities be a smart ***, and tell them that you're concerned too.Smile & ask if  them if they'd like to donate money or time to help  you  towards your degree. They'll be like "huh? "what?" , lol...

  2. Yep they told mr that maths and english are all that matters

but i really wanted to do creative arts for my gcse but mi parents sed it was stupid

  3. nope. but all my teachers in primary school said to my mum that i was a "usless dumb little girl who would never get anywhere in my life."

  4. LET EM' KNOW YOUR FOLLOWIN' YOUR HEART, AND THEY CAN'T KILL YOUR DREAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!(ALWAYS BE PROUD OF YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  5. I'm an anthropology major, and people tell me all the time that it's an empty degree. But what these people don't know is that it provides a good background for certain medical career paths which I am interested in taking. Careers like speech/language pathology or audiology. Two areas I'm extremely interested in.

  6. Wow, why would say something like that about Graphic Design? That's one of the biggest fields right now...

Anyway, yes, people have told me my major will be worthless, and I know for a fact that's true. =) That's why I'm majoring in two other useful fields, lol.
