  1. I've never trained a wild horse, but I was married to my ex-wife for a few years, so you know, pretty similar...

  2. yes and i sleep with him every night

  3. i know kicking bear has, he has website and it's really intersting.

but myself? i've never felt the need to train a wild horse or any horse, i perfer getting a trained horse and just kicking around and trail riding.

edit: i know of this event they have, were trainers all over train one wild mustang, it's to help them ect. . . it was in last month's issue of trail rider. the one trainer wrote briefly about how she trained the one horse.  i guess there were 60 trainers this year that did it.  good luck

  4. well my "wild horse" was with us since birth. but as she grew she got worse, i guess we just thought we would breed her or something. but i didn't want that. great conformation! pretty good personality, and all around great horse ( besides the attitude! ) but you know, you don't just let something like that go to waste. so i started the training process, you know about that so anyway.. we had ups and downs. i've been trample, chipped my teeth, been kciked just about everywhere, biten to many times to count, and flat out not respected. but after everythings done, its just amazing. i ride bareback and lope/canterthrough the trees, things i never imagined i could do, i did! lol. i was terrified at one point tho. after i was trample it took along time for me to get my confidence back up. ur totally right though. you miss out on sooo much. its amazing how much you can accomplish. that companionship i have now is unbelievable!

  5. Yes! I'm from Australia and bought a newly caught from the wild brumby colt.  He had been doped so appeared quiet in the sale ring.  I wouldn't advise people to take on a wild horse, but if you have the experience, time, knowledge and patience it can be the most rewarding experience.  I floated my little drugged out brumby home and put him in a secure yard with high wooden fences, gave him some freshly picked grass and left him to get out of his semi coma.  It took a few days but he turned back into a wild little colt!!  The flight response was unlike anything i had experienced with a captive bred equine. He would cut laps flat out around his yard every time i approached.  Being a wild horse he wouldn't touch grain food so i had to pick him wheelbarrow loads of grass every day.  After about two weeks i used Join Up to train him and from then on our bond strengthened every day.  I called him Derain, which in Aboriginal means 'from the mountains'.  He is the best all round riding horse i have ever owned.  He will do absolutley anything, if i say jump, he says how high. I think his attitude to facing new things comes from his mountain heritage, he's tough, strong and hardy, with amazing ability in all fields.  He has been gelded and i paddock him with our weanlings (We breed welshies) and he's an excellent example on them.  When i call him he comes galloping flat out to the gate and all the shaggy little ones follow him. Derain is now eight years old and 14.3hh, hes bay with a blaze. Training your own horse is such a rewarding experience, to see an unhandled scared individual change into a trusting loyal partner is amazing.  Congratulations on your mare, i hope your bond strengthens more and more each day.  P.S - Derain now loves his grain food, it just took him a while to get the taste for it!

  6. i had to train a 6yr old beautiful Tobian paint mare that u could not even put a halter on much less touch her if u walked in to her stall she would rear up and start to paw the air.the reason for this is that she had been abused by her last owner well after a few months of bonding i was able to saddle her and ride her she was great i sold her later on to a man that was going to use her as a lawn ornament and to keep his old gelding company.

  7. I've trained my 2 wild mustangs by myself and they are perfectly good horses. give the time to train them and you'll be able to have a good time with them :)

  8. I haven't but I know people who do.
