Has anyone ever traveled to the Cayman Islands?

I am planning a trip to the Cayman Islands and was wondering if anyone has been there-- Is the food/water safe to eat or is it unsafe to drink water that is not bottled or fruit/vegetables that are not cooked? Also, how is the crime? We aren't staying in a resort, just renting a house. I'm not exactly sure which islands we are going to yet either-- any suggestions on which to visit?

Thanks!

  1. Water and food are safe, provided they are prepared in a clean location (just like any place in the world).  Crime isn't as bad as some other locations but just be street smart.  The Cayman Dollar is about US$ 1.20 so be warned.  When you rent the house, make sure it is in either US$ or C$--you'd hate to get there and find out the price is 20% more then you expected.  Grand Cayman is the spot to be.  You can see the other islands in day trips.

  2. yes i've been there once b4...pretty nice if you ask me...water safe, food safe...nice beach etc

  3. I used to live there. The water is perfectly safe to drink, so you don't have to splash out on expensive bottled water. Most of the fruit and vegetables unfortunately come from the USA and Canada, although one would prefer them to come from other Caribbean islands, so there is no need to worry on that score. The Cayman Islands used to have a reputation for being relatively crime free, but unfortunately the crime rate has risen in recent years. That does not mean that you have to worry -- just be careful about leaving things lying about in temptation's way. Grand Cayman is the place where it all happens, so you'll probably go there, but you can take day trips to Cayman Brac and Little Cayman if you want. They are tiny islands and a day seems to be quite enough to cover their various attractions. Enjoy yourselves!  You'll have fun!

  4. Caymn Islands is one f the most safest places you will ever go to.The water is safe and fruit/veg and food is fabulous. Grand Cayman Island is a very rich island and without meaning offence to any Caymanians, its just like a really really nice part of the U.S. Out of the three islands, in terms of things to do Grand Cayman offers more, but Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are beautifull too.I hope you enjoy your stay , I loved it when I lived there when I was younger.

  5. i've been there.it was awesome! and its very safe. i spent like 2 weeks there. nothing is wrong with the water or food.its good. but just so you know, the currency over there is higher than that of US, so be prepared to spend A LOT of money.
