Im thinking about it... just got out of a 3 year relationship and need to get away, just wondering if anyone took a tour, or where was a good place to go alone?

  1. Munich, Germany. Just got back from there. It's a great place for excitement and fun.

  2. I did! I went to Paris with my friends, all of us were going to France without our Parents but instead we had teachers to supervise us. It was alright though, try going there.

  3. I wish!!!

  4. I have, a few times.

After my partner died, I needed to get away badly.  I took a flight to Munich, rented a car and just drove around on my own through Alpine Austria.  I speak zero German, so I went for a whole week without speaking to anyone beyond getting a meal and a room to sleep.  I would sit in a beautiful spot and write in my journal the things I was thinking about.  Then I took a train to Florence, and then to Venice.  Venice was a place we always wanted to visit together, but never had the chance because the sickness came.  It was a little depressing to see all the couples together in the world's most romantic city.

Then I went to Rome and ended up having a fling with a s**y young Italian.  It may sound irreverant, but it was good for me.  I needed to feel desirable again, as I was getting on in years, and the slow deterioration of my dearest love was the height of pain for me.  I never told anyone about that affair in Rome.

Take the trip.  If this is a breakup, I might not recommend going someplace the two of you wanted to share.  It might just stir up more resentment and anger than you want right now.  But get out there and do something for yourself.  It helps.

That was 15 years ago.  Since then, I never found the right partner.  I have travelled on my own on several occasions, France, Thailand, Spain, Italy, Malaysia, Japan, Scotland.  I always enjoy myself seeing different parts of the world and meeting the nicest people from all over.  I was in tears at Hiroshima and the little Japanese school children gathered around to comfort the American who came to visit.  I made a good friend in Madrid.  A pair of old Greek women sat with me in a restaurant in Paris, because I was dining alone, and we had the greatest time.  A few games of chess with an Austrian teenager who spoke no English (he kicked my butt!).  Not two words passed between us for hours, but what a pleasure it was.

There is such wonder out there.  Go find it.

    That's my thought on it!
