Has anyone ever tries SMC (Specialty Merchandise Corporation) -'cause I'm thinking about trying it.?

Is there anything I should know before I sign up? How much effort did you put into it, and how well did you do? Are there any honest or common mistakes that I should know about?

If you have a way to sell the stuff... flea markets, etc... you might earn a little. Remember there are fees, time and fuel costs involved in that. You might be able to do better with a part-time job.

I wouldn't count on being able to set up a web-site and sell this junk on the web like they claim. There will be thousands of other small web sites listing the same items... and who's going to search for them? These are items you might buy on impulse, but who will be browsing them? Like the other poster said... the market is pretty saturated with this stuff...

If you want to do flea markets, you might be better off finding some wholesale suppliers in China... shopping auctions and garage sales, watching the death notices and garbage picking, buying any item you see at a remarkable sale price for resale, etc... These are good ways to get items you can make a profit on without paying or joining.

This Chinese site has a few items you could probably make money on without even buying large quantities.  http://www.dealextreme.com/  I'm sure these items are popular on eBay already, but you might do well at flea markets, etc...

Listen to the 1st guy.  The ceramics don't sell well, and the watches quit after a few months.  Flea markets are not the place to make a lot of money.  

If you really want to work with SMC, I would recommend getting together a few thousand and put your business name on their catalogs. I think you have to buy 1000 of them to do so.  

Good luck.  And don't spend money that you can't afford to lose.  This is a gamble.

I did it a few years ago. I know that most flea markets and a lot of convenience stores have SMC merchandise. Once you get into it you will see their stuff everywhere. The problem is that the market is full of it, that its hard to sell it yourself. The best way to make money is to find a store that will sell it. You can do okay selling it yourself but it would take lots and lots of work. You do get a great price on the items, and I always bought all my christmas and birthday presents for family and friends out of the catalog because it was so cheap. It's not like avon or home interiors where you barely make anything off what you sell.
