anyway, since the FDA and AMA have put the kibosh on numerous cures and relievers, I have been studying them. I have just researched DMSO and purchased some from a website. I was wondering if anyone has tried it , for what, and what were the results?

  1. DMSO does absorb through the skin. It immediately imparts a metallic taste in the mouth. Just nasty. I can't remember why it was taken off the market, but I believe that it has serious side effects in humans.

  2. I used it for an ankle injury and it made my mouth taste like nasty garlic. It absorbs through your skin.  It is onw of those remedies that sounds better than it worked.

  3. DMSO is an old remedy I remember from back in the 70s. It's for humans but can be used on animals, too. My vet made me use it when the arsenic injection he used to kill heartworms missed the vein. I had to rub DMSO on my dog's front leg for weeks so (from what I remember back then) her tissue wouldn't die. I have heard that DMSO is the liquid form of MSM, and that DMSO is used on humans for arthritic conditions. I was able to purchase DMSO about two years ago for another animal related illness, and I did so through one of those deep-country feed and tack stores.

One of the drawbacks I strongly remember is that DMSO is absorbed through the skin and leaches a smell out of the mouth. My dog used to breathe in my face when I was putting the DMSO on her leg, and I have not been able to eat canned corn in years (that's because, to me, DMSO smells like the liquid canned corn is packed in).

Just last month, I met someone who swore by DMSO - he's on a natural kick with organics and near-vegan as possible. His breath had an odd odor that I think was DMSO, but I'm not totally positive since I met him that day, and hey, it's been 30 years since I smelled it.  It made sense to me, though, because the guy I'm dating started taking MSM and recently has a very similar odor on his breath. Two plus two...eh?

  4. I think the chemical is really awesome.

I originally found out about it from someone used it to mix it with drugs so they'd absorb into the whole body really quickly.  He didn't think that approach was very good since if there were any impurities problems would occur, but some of the chemistry with the substance was fairly interesting, so I went and looked it up.

From what I found online, it appeared that DMSO is "one of the cheap magic chemicals (like hydrogen peroxide)" and it had lots of uses.  So I thought about the safety connotations and bought some.

    I've personally found it works for the following;

Any tissue which is inflame or sore, especially useful for alleviating carpal tunnel.

Getting other stuff into the body, especially Hydrogen peroxide (which I've used on a few people to get rid of herpes/a cancer)

Random anti oxidant stuff (bit harder to quantify what the purpose of this was).

Migranes (I believe it does this by lowering inter cranial pressure)

    Helping a friend with arthritis

The more serious DMSO people advocate a couple thousand other uses for the chemical, but I haven't really tested them.

As far as how the chemical works I can say the following.

    A) Do not put too high a concentration on your skin, then it becomes an irritant (then again  there are very chemicals this is not true).

    B) DMSO itself is completely non toxic (which is very rare for chemicals).  I found out from my ochem teacher they actually use it for criogenics since it lowers the freezing point of cells, so cells can be saturated in it and not die (whereas any other thing mixed with water in a high concentration would kill cells).

    C) While DMSO is harmless, anything mixed into it becomes much more dangerous since it's able to get into the body very quickly.  As such it's generally recommended that you wash the area it's applied to, and use pure DMSO.  Many people buy DMSO sold in plastic containers which basically defeats this purpose, so if you plan on purchasing it, I would recommend getting one sold in a glass container.

    D) It's bad to but on bug bites.

That's about all I personally know.  There are lots of books on the subject.  I know that it was never fully tested in trials because 1) it's a cheap multipurpose drug (which big pharma hates) 2) It's impossible to conduct blind trials with since it makes the user give off an odor.

I've only done so much with DMSO thusfar.  I think it's a really great chemical, but it's on my list to study further.

    Hope that helps!

  5. It works for arthritis, pain relief, and inflamation.  I used it for sports injuires in muscle and joint problems and kept me on the playing field in college and in the Pro's.  Leaves a bad taste and ordor but the benefits I got  made that tolerable.

  6. Coco, why buy something, that you do not under stand. No it will cure nothing. It is a substance that you mix medicines in and will be absorbed faster. For animal medicines, I have heard that some people have try it for arthritics
