If so how did you feel about it? I was looking on the web and they have like 10 brands. (Clinique, Lancôme, Shiseido, Clarins, Origins, Estée Lauder, Laura Mercier, MAC, Prescriptives and philosophy) How do I know what brand to go with? Can anyone help me out? Thank you for your help!

  1. I had mine and my girls done at a department store (Younkers). It turned out really good for all of us.

I just called and they set me up. I didn't ask for a specific brand or anything. But I'm really not picky about my makeup.

You could always go for a practice run.

    Good luck!

  2. First you should call and see which of the counters have open appointments for the day of your wedding. That may help you narrow it down. From my experience, Clinique is going to be a classic, natural look. MAC is going to be edgy and dramatic. Lancome and Estee Lauder tend to appeal to older women. Origins is going to be VERY natural. I was in a wedding last year where the bride hired a Laura Mercier woman from Macy's to come do our makeup, and it was very classic - soft lips, glowing cheeks, defined eyes. It was great because she had all kinds of products that would help the makeup stay on all night.

A smart thing to do, whoever you choose, would be to bring in some pictures from magazines that are similar to what you want done. Any good makeup artist can emulate a photo.

Definitely go for a consultation BEFORE your wedding day - like a trial run. That way you'll know exactly what you're getting when you go in for the real thing.

  3. My step daughter had hers done at the Clinique counter and it looked very nice. All you can do is some research online about the various brands and then narrow it down to a few and go have them do a practice on you. Take pictures and compare it later. Wait a few days in between each one to make sure you don't have any adverse effects from the makeup.

PS: 'there' is referring to 'going over there'; 'theIR' refers to a person or group of people. Sorry, it's just one of those things that gets to me!

  4. I had my trial make-up done at the Chanel counter, and they made me look like a hooker. So I bought some of the Chanel stuff and did it myself for my wedding day.

Really, it all depends on who is doing your make-up. You could have a great artist at one of the cheaper counters like Clinique, and you could have someone who is horrible at the more upscale counters.

I recommend going for a few tests first, then when you find someone you like, go back to her on the wedding day. Don't leave it up to fate!

  5. Not Macy's but Nordstrom's. They did it for free at the MAC counter, wonderful makeup that lasts all day.  They also had a portfolio of different looks I could try, and if you give them a picture of what you want to look like theyre really good at following it, even if you just bring a pic of the dress you have they'll match it accordingly.

  6. go to shoppers, body shop, bath and body

  7. My daughter, the matron of honor, all the bridesmaids, the groom's mother, and I all went to the Clinique counter at Dillard's.  They did a fabulous job.  That was 4 years ago, and the lady who did my daughter's make-up and mine still stops to talk with me when I'm in the mall.

Just remember to have plenty of straws on hand.  Once the girls get the make-up done, they'll need to drink through straws so they don't completely wash off their lipstick.

Of the brands you mention, I've also had make-overs done by the Estee Lauder counter.  They also do a fabulous job.

If you have time, schedule appointments at different make-up counters on consecutive Saturdays or Sundays.  Let them do make-overs just as if they were doing it for the wedding itself.  Then you can see how the makeup smells, how it feels, how long it lasts, how easy it is (or isn't!) to wash off.  Each counter will create a file on you so they will know exactly which products and which colors they used.  If there's a color you didn't like, go back to that counter another weekend and let them try again!

If you have some free time on your weekends between now and the wedding, this could be a fun way for you and your girls or you and your mom to "play". And then you'll know which counter, which technician, and which products you want for your wedding.

  8. MAC is excellent for a younger look.  If you and your wedding party are a little older, though, I would go with Estee Lauder or Clinique, which are also very nice, just a little more subtle and traditional.

  9. Just go in and tell them what you want and need. I have had clinique an lancome do my make up for military balls.  The sooner you go, they should be able to give you an appointment. When you make an appointment make sure you get a time after your hair appointment.
