Has anyone ever used prozac? Did it work for you?

Did you have any bad side effects?

I'm 19 and I took it for awhile (not sure how long exactly) my mood was a little better but at night I would be very suicidal, then it would pass.  My doctor thought it was meds (since depending on your age it can cause an increase in suicidal thoughts) so they took me off of it.

hiya i'm a 48yr old male, been on anti-d's for around 20ish yrs, tried several, seroxat is a big no no,major probs. I was on prozac for maybe 9yrs of varying doses,i found them ok but as all anti-d's they are psychologically addictive, i came off them mainly because i was building a tolerence to them. now i take venoflaxine & proprananol beta blockers, i am considering going back to prozac as it puts me in a more calm sedated state.  Not the desired effect for some but the one i need? prozac depends on your own requirements? how far do you need to sedate yourself?

Works like a charm for me, everyone's different though. Depends on your type of depression though - it's an SSRI (stimulates the "happy cells"(!) in your brain) so it doesnt work for everyone. Also depends on any other medication you're taking. I take it with lithium and it does it's job and keeps me fairly level.

Different story if I stop taking it though. Total meltdown. Thats the only side effect for me, and it's not really a side effect as I'm never allowed off them anyway! Just one of those things

No I haven't used this medicine but a friend of mine did. He seemed a little crazy while they were on it. But strangest thing is that I got along with them almost perfectly. But ever since he stopped taking it, we haven't really been understanding each other.

But ever since he started taking it he actually in a way was more depressed. (He was nvr depressed in the first place)

I took fluoxetine which is its generic and I didn't have any side effects. I took it before I went to bed and never had any bad side effects until I got off of the prozac and that was just mainly being in a bad mood and moody a lot (which could have been because I was pregnant too) so maybe that wasn't one. But while on it it was great for my anxiety and depression. Good luck!

I took it when I had anxiety problems and it worked fine, but everyone is different.

I got really nauseous when I took it the first time. I got so sick that I had to leave school. Feeling nauseous is a common side-effect of prozac. I didn't like it so I stopped taking it. But everyone is different. It might not affect you that way.

i took it because i kept going into crazy fits and throwing and smashing things, it calms you down and its good but like any drug you have to come off it then you feel **** and moody

I have never been on Prozac, but I've heard good things about it from people who have taken it.  Like any other medication, it's going to work for some people and not others.
