I've been there twice for a month and it's an unusual place with perfect rainforests. Americans don't seem to go there.

  1. I'm an American and I have visited Suriname many times. I love the pristine rainforest's,the wildlife and the beautiful beaches.

I think there are several reasons why it is not often visited by people from the U.S.(as well as tourists from many other countries). The main reason being  that it is still more of an "adventure tourist" type of destination. Also the government of Suriname doesn't seem to actively promote the country and additionally, travel within the country can sometimes be a bit of a challenge.Although Suriname enjoys a relatively high standard of living it still faces some serious political and economic challenges. For these reasons it may continue to be ignored by travel agents and passed over by the traveling public.Sad but true.

  2. AmeriKans don't go there because the State Dept. warns them away from all the CUBANS that live and work there.  AND.. 20 years ago, an AmeriKan could not get a visa for the country.  I put in there with a sailboat in 1987 and I thought the gunboats were going to blow me out of the water... I got the problem fixed and had an ESCORT to the end of their water.
