  1. Hi:   Over 15 years ago, before it was so popular I was seeing a lot of alternative doctors, mainly for chronic fatigue. I would much rather take herbs, homeopathy, go on certain diets, etc. than go to an allopathic doctor who would just give me pills to pop.

I think there are good alternative health doctors out there, but I have grown somewhat disillusioned with the field. Most of these folks don't take any insurance, and they charge huge amounts of money.

Did the doctor do a thorough blood workup to determine that you have excessive yeast (candida)? How exactly was the diagnosis made?  Candida is just such a common diagnosis made by many alternative doctors.

Excessive yeast can cause weight gain, but many other things can too---an underactive thyroid gland, certain medications, lack of exercise, overeating, as well as a variety of health conditions.

As I said before, I would rather take herbs, etc. but this approach does not always help. In many cases, what might be best is a combination of traditional and alternative health care.

Whatever you do, I wish you good health and happiness.

  2. An "Alternative medicine doctor" can mean almost anything, from an MD with wide interests to a Chiropractor to an Acupuncturist or Chinese Medicine Doctor.

Since they are telling you you have "excessive yeast" I am guessing they are a dietician trying to sell yo something.

This is unscientific and has never been proven in any way.

    Go somewhere else.

  3. I have been to an alternative doctor. excessive Yeast is called candida, not sure bout the weight gain as a symptom.

  4. Kazlith is right that Candida is an all too common condition today that is commonly from too much sugar and is greatly made worse by overuse of antibiotics. Now, if you would like something that could help to fight the yeast, there are a few natural options, namely Probiotics, Grapefruit Seed, and Caprylic Acid (commonly found in Coconut Oil).

Probiotics are the beneficial bacteria that live in your intestinal tract and promote an environment that makes it very difficult for yeast to survive. Grapefruit Seed is good for boosting the immune system, which can help fight off the yeast. The combination of those three together are very commonly recommended by natural doctors to fight off yeast overgrowths. Good luck!

  5. Yes, I've been to naturopathic doctors and to acupunturists. The excessive yeast thing is common nowadays where so many of us eat too much sugar and take too many antibiotics. It can definitely cause weight gain.
