  1. Six riders have won the Tour without winning a stage: Oscar Pereiro (2006), Greg LeMond (1990), Lucien Aimar (1966), Gastone Nencini (1960), Roger Walkowiak (1956) and Firmin Lambot (1922).


  2. Those who won were consistanly near the front in nearly every stage and earned the most points over all.  Winning a stage could have been something of a fluke, like being a great time trialer  or sprinter but nothing else.
