  1. I have an interview this afternoon with them for a Field Sales Agent.  I have many questions before I commit to them.

Based on the gentlemen's response it does not sound very promising.

The person I spoke with who is the Office Manager seemed very nice, down to earth.

    We'll see!!

  2. I worked for Horace Mann Corp. 23 years and could not recommend it to anyone now. I can not name anyone that would recommend Horace Mann as a good company to work for, I am including everyone I knew during my 23 year career. This includes those that were fired, quit, or retired. I know one agent that was forced to retire after 26 years because he wasn't selling enough life insurance. They changed the contract that agents have four times while I was working for them. The last change cut my commission $12,000 a year.

If you leave Horace Mann after working several years, they own your book of business and you lose it all. Work for a company that will allow you to build up a book of business that you can sell when you decide to call it quits. To see how well an agent will do in the business, look around and see which agents own or have a large office and then see what company they work for.
