Question:

Has anyone ever worked on a cruise ship? Or know anyone else who has? If so would you reccommend it?

I am considering applying for work on a Cruise ship as either Singer or even bar waitress (singer as my first choice, it just seems more difficult for a job in this sector). I would be grateful for some feedback from anyone who has experienced this before

  1. A girl I went to school with now works on a Disney cruise liner as a children's entertainer. She loves it, she gets to travel the world doing a job she loves. I know she works at least 70 hours a week and it's very hard work but if I were you I'd go for it. Beats an office job. Best of luck x

  2. good luck,

i would try an agent as some others have said.

  3. It's a fabulous life if you don't mind the long contracts and never being able to get away from your work.  Nothing like free travel, room and board and tons of opportunities to do something else..

    Good luck... you'll enjoy it.

  4. The Stage newspaper (UK) advertises for entertainers sometimes. They hold auditions in London. It's a great job. I just came back off a Princess cruise and the theatre productions are top notch. Fab costumes/scenery and brilliant cast. It lasts for about an hour. Another night the same cast do an entirely different show, they do motown music one night. In the other theatre they have comediens some nights and in bars they have singers such as Frank Sinatra sound-a-likes. If you do barwork you wouldn't be able to do theatre as well except they have one night where the crew entertain in the theatre. barwork or theatre work is a brilliant life for anyone. Go for it

  5. I worked on cruise ships for quite a few years and loved it!

Would definitely recommend it to anyone that thinks they would enjoy that type of lifestyle as its not for everyone.

To get a job as a singer on a ship, I would say you would need to go through an agency that specialises in the entertainment side of things.  But I could be wrong - I was a nurse!

The way I got my job was to send my CV to every cruise ship company out there!  Most wrote back - even if it was to say they weren't interested - but that's how I got the job.

Lots of the company's are owned by the same company - P&O, Princess, Cunard.

Also, some companys will employ people from different countries for different jobs.

Good luck anyway - If you get there you will have a fantastic time and see amazing places and meet freinds that you will keep forever!

  6. My father was apart of the musical entertainment for an Alaskan Cruise and he told me that it was very competitive.  not only do you get great pay but you get to travel.

The problem is if you get sick and he did, and was stuck in Alaska for 3 weeks in a hospital.  But that was just a conincidence.

My Father also told me the entertainment is very competitive almost as getting into an Army Band...because it is considered a VERY honorable position...and he was in an Army Band as well.

My suggestion is to get training in anything you would want to do, if you want to sing learn how to read music, if you want to waittress, work at a local franchised restraunt/bar.

It is hard to become an entertainer, but it is worth looking into.  And is worth training for!!  Good Luck

  7. my stepdaughter has worked on a cruise ship for the past 4 years as a dancer and she has never looked back. she has an agent here in the uk who she pays a monthly fee. she has just set off for 8 month contract in brazil touring south america, came home for 3 months after a contract singapore, thailand and malasia its an ideal way to see the world and get paid for it. the hours are sometimes long depending on the job that you do but the benifits are brilliant. follow youre dream of a singer get an agent and let them do the lookin for you its what you pay them for

    good luck
