  1. You have to apply like any other job. you need at least an ordinary seamans document (OS) and STCW from the coast guard, it costs about 95 dollars, and you need a drug test and physical. after that it is mostly on the job training for deckhands. you need to call the nearest us coast guard regional exam center abd get a packet for OS, and to be evaluated. Work schedules range from one two or three weeks even time or 28/14. companies in NY harbor include McAllister, Moran, Bouchard, Rorhig, Penn Maritime, Weeks, Kosnac, Reinauer, and Poling.  McAllister and moran do general towing and ship docking, weeks does construction, the rest do mostly oil.

  2. do you really want to? i'd prefer not to dive in the east river. and the sound's not that clean either. ewwwwww.

  3. I don't think they do that but look up:

    Moran Towing

    MaCallister Towing

    Brouchard

    Turecomo

    Stapleton Launch

    Marine Pollution Control
