  1. It has a very different feel from the USA's capital, DC. There isn't as much green space and the museums aren't free. It has great bike lanes. It's clean and full of history in the touristy/governmental venues. But, like any big city, there are a lot of down-and-out people in certain areas not far from the parliament. Ask your fellow students where it's not safe to go.

Right across the river to the north is a great city in Quebec. There is an amazing park with hiking, and more museums.

Good luck with your studies and have fun!

  2. Ottawa is what everyone has said, all I can add, is if you love to eat and try different things, Ottawa has quite a few restaurants that covers every kind of taste.

  3. Ottawa is nice, small and pretty laid back. It gets really cold in the winter time so make sure you bring a lot of warm clothes, and skates of course. You gonna need those so you can skate on Rideau canal :)

It has a lot of pubs down in the market area.

Parliament is free to see and i recommend that tour,it's really nice:)

  4. It's a laid back small city, although everyone's opinion will be different. It's pretty safe, clean, and enjoyable. There are plenty of irish pubs to go around, plenty of bars and clubs, parks, etc. It is a government city however, that goes to sleep earlier than you'd think - the mall downtown closes early.
