  1. Stay away from Olive Garden, I think there stuff is disgusting.  I have never had an In n Out burger but hear that they are awesome.  There are so many wonderful places to try...have fun!

  2. olive garden, is very good

  3. Olive Garden is great, but when trying something new, privately owned palces seem to be best.  Also look for a Chilis and Ruby Tuesdays!!!!  But olive garden is my favorite dining chain

  4. I used to live in a very small town that didn't support 'chain restaurants' but that was around 26 years ago.

When they put the first Dairy Queen on the outskirts of town, people would go there (no joke) in suit and ties and dresses.  In fact, this continued for around 2 years.  The DQ had a serious issue with getting enough people to stay in business because it was mostly frequented on Sunday (after church).  The High School was almost 10 miles down the road so it didn't make sense for the kids to go off campus and spend 10 minutes getting there, 5 minutes ordering, 10 minutes getting back and 5 minutes eating somewhere in-between.

What happened to make DQ a real success is that they finally got Oked to have a Meal Wagon frequent the HS area.  That's all it took.  A year from then the kids who had graduated and all those who were on Summer break, were hooked and the DQ flourished.

As for me, I've eaten in probably 70% of the restaurants that are traditionally advertised (when I was in California I ate out 90% of the time even though I love cooking -- it was just fun to find all sorts of new tastes).

    Hope this answer helps.

  5. my town isnt too into chains either, but we have a few.

we dont have in and out though, and while im a vegetarian and i dont really like their french fries, my friends all swear by in and out burger

but if you're going to sf, theres so many other better places to go to eat besides chains

p.s. you dont happen to be from santa cruz do you...?

  6. try here my best restaurant. http://carmineristoranteitaliano.dgte.ph

  7. Olive Garden is good but it is expensive.  In n out is also pretty good and relatively cheaper.

  8. I've eaten at both since my homestate does not have either of those chain restaurants.  I like the Olive Garden's breadsticks and salad!

  9. I've eaten at Olive Garden twice in the past month.  My favorite things there are the Zuppa Toscana -it is a sausage and potato soup...I love it...crave it when I can't get any!

And their salad and bread sticks are very good too.  If you go for lunch, soup and salad is cheap.  As far as entrees go,  I had a grilled shrimp dish...can't remember what they called it but it was pretty good.

We don't have In n Out here, so I don't have an opinion there.

  10. omg i love those places!! in n out is like one of the best burger joints!! go there for sure !! good luck on your food experiences!!

  11. I've eaten in a lot of places - SF is possibly one of the mecca's of food.  If you must hit a franchise, AVOID Olive Garden, 4 restaurants in 4 states and not one decent meal.  YOU MUST try IN-OUT Burger, nothing is frozen or pre-made other than the rolls are baked centrally.  The meat comes in batches, formed and seasoned in the store, potatoes are washed and cut in the store as are all the veggies.  Try the fries "Animal Style".

If you go by the warf and like clam chowder, it almost a tradition to have the sourdough bread bowl clam chowder.  No place serves a bad batch with their reputations on the line!

  12. Of course you'll have to try In N Out Burger. Try California Pizza Kitchen as well. One of my favorite restaurants!
