Has anyone every gotten a state grant or free grant to open business? i wanna open a daycare. can i find help?

im scepitical about those freemoneygrants.com schemes. look like scams to me. has anyone really got money? even if its money i have to pay back to the state. THANKS

doubtful - grants are usually only available for very specific purposes, and most are not for profit seeking businesses - just opening a daycare probably would not be one of them - go to your library and see if they Matthew Lesko's book that he advertises on TV - "Free Money" or something

The year I opened my child care I had the paperwork all filled out for an outdoor equipment grant.  They pulled all grant monies that same year before I could get the info to them. (Michigan) Bummer.  They have not returned as of yet and I doubt they ever will...with economy as it is.  Info from these grants were passed on through one of our state agencies that work with child care providers and families who need child care.  I wouldn't trust these freemoneygrant websites that are out there unless you know the source or someone who has had success.

Starting up a business does cost $$$...especially if you are doing it from ground up.  We considered that as well but decided that the time wasn't right.  If I'm going to do it...I want to do it they way I think is best and also become NAEYC accredited so... we decided to stay with the home child care.  Is this something  you can consider?  You can be licensed, at least in MI, for 6 or 12.  12 children with a helper makes a nice preschool group.  Not only is it less $$$ up front but it gives you some great experience about running a business.  Though I've worked in the field 10+ years ...and felt comfortable with the idea of becoming a director/owner of a center...I learned a LOT from having an in-home child care that will benefit me immensely if I pursue the center thought in the future.
