Has anyone every heard that in a Polish wedding, the bridal party must all be single?

My friend's parents are from Poland, and they are giving her a hard time about the bridal party. They say there is a Polish tradition that no one in the bridal party can be married.

Her fiancee has an issue with this (He's half Polish) b/c his ONLY brother is married. And no one we know has heard of this tradition.

Any help would be appreciated.

  1. Hmm... I've never heard of that either!

  2. No, I haven't, and I have had polish friends.......since the bridal couple is also american, it would be unfair to have exclusive polish traditions, whatever they are, there must be compromise when two families become united thru marriage.......it would be terrible for the half brother to be excluded, weddings are about family first , even before any regional custom....good luck.

  3. No I've never heard of that, but I do know Polish Weddings last about 3 days!

  4. I'm Polish and have never heard of it.

We're doing the Polish blessing with the bread & salt at the start of the reception.

  5. I've never heard of that either. It is your wedding, plan it how you want, and if they want the brother in the wedding, he should be allowed to be.

  6. I'm Polish and never heard of that.

  7. I'm Ukrainian, and know that it's definitely old country style that the bridesMAIDs should be single, as should the groomsmen. If you think about it, it makes sense. (However, I tried to research it, but could find no mention of it...)

Of course, it's not set in stone - lots of traditions have changed over the years, and especially if the wedding isn't going to be purely Polish.

However, in this case, he should definitely have his brother as part of the wedding party.
