  1. IT IS THE FRIGGIN BEST !!!!!!!!!!! i have family there and go visit every few years.... in Sicily that is........... imagine a Caribbean paradise with all italians...... no matter where you go, you CANNOT get a bad meal... the food is super fresh, no preservatives .... the women are gorgeous!... everyone is friendly and as soon as i hit the lottery... I'm moving' there!......... beautiful beaches , rocky private cliff side or a beautiful sandy beach... depends what you like.... things are cheap too... it's not a tourist trap.....

but i have been to Rome too..... sooooo much history and so much to see... it's a tourist trap though (expensive).......

  2. Follow up on the things you say you love about Italy. Study up, get a book fro your local library. Pick up a couple of Red Maps for the cities you'll want to see.

Italy is a magical place... as long as you don't have the luck to get your stuff stolen in cities like Palermo, Naples, Rome, Florence or Venice. I've mentioned these cities because they are the most visited and therefore where the thieves go for their working vacations. These are cities that you may want to visit for a million reasons... and each one of them I'm sure will be valid.

Italy offers mountains, valleys, rivers, seascape. Winter and summer are swell times to visit - you can even ski on the Etna (in Sicily) during the winter and if the weather is right you even go for a swim in the sea when you head down off the mountain. The Italian Alps offer great summer fun: hiking, swimming, rock climbing and much much more And in the winter you can cross country and down-hill ski... and in both seasons the food AND drink is probably some of the best in the whole world.

Tuscany, Umbria, and even Calabria and Puglia (not to mention Sardinia and my all time favorite – Sicily – The California of the Mediterranean!) offer peace and tranquility... or all of the action your heart desires if that is the kid of vacation your heart desires. The Veneto & Friuli offer food, wine and good cheer. The Alto-Adige gives you Germanic manners with Italian flair.

History, culture and food all in neat little packages waiting to be explored. The best thing to do is go to Italy prepared. Like I mentioned – read up some. It’s more important for 1st timers to know more of the history & culture than it is the language (even though a few basic words will always help you find the bathroom!).

Remember, good things happen to good people.... so go to Italy with good intentions and without misconceptions and you too will find it a magical place.

  3. I have been there 3 x and love it. It's like the best or the most beautiful historical places you see in the movie or the magazines. I have been to quiet a few European countries and I think Italy is the best, lots of history, beautiful architecture, good and efficient train system that takes you everywhere and is cheap too, not as expensive as some other western European countries. If I have to choose only one country to go to, I would choose Italy. Get a good guide book (I like Rick Steve's), pick the places you want to go and just follow it and I am sure you will have a lot of fun. Try to go in spring or fall when the weather is more comfortable.
