I wrote a novel about a person I hardly knew and then he poped up in my life after about 5 or more years and he acted , how can I put it, like he was in love with me or something, and then I kept seeing him all the time, at random. well at last I asked him to meet and talk and he set a date which was on my birthday! the meeting was a shocking experience because a. all the things I had guessed about him where dead right and b. he was so 'focused' on me that I was afraid of being raped or something. anyway, after the book was published I had a 2 page review in a newspaper and then I saw him again the very next morning. do we have a psychic bond or something? he freaks me out. something weird is happening. (he is not a stalker, it's all random happenings, it is not possible to know about the novel).

  1. Sounds to me as if your a very emotional writer and gets deep in your novels characters. In doing so a good writer will become ultra-sensitive. meeting someone who could seem to fall into character is not so uncommon. I wouldn't say you had a psychic bond but more of a coincidental bond as where the attraction for you comes mainly from the character then the man himself. I say keep your distant until the effects of your writing wears off and your intuition kicks back in.

  2. Maybe you're reading too much into his character? My ex-wife had dreamed of Mr. Right. She left me eventually for Mr.Drunken promises.(sniff...Every drunk will eventually die and quit drinking though.) Look into Remote Viewing anyway. It's similar to what you're writing about. Something brought you two together, even if it doesn't last. And yes, I have but, that was another (Divine or supernatural) intervention.

  3. and i thought the novel was about me

  4. it does sound like your coneccted never happened to me but good luck

  5. Generally, you DO need a connection to be able to do that. Once I went to Magic Mountain, where I fooled the Guesser. He gave the answer I believed was correct, but it turned out that I was wrong. The coincidence bothered me, so I checked it. I stood on the sidelines and began making my own silent guesses as to his customers' weight and age. He kept giving MY WRONG ANSWERS. And I never opened my mouth. Finally, he had to shut down because he was losing too many times. That's when I realized I should leave him alone. But I've always remembered that incident, and never found a 'rational' explanation for it.

  6. Serendipity & zemblanity

    1. The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident.

    2. The fact or occurrence of such discoveries.

    3. An instance of making such a discovery.

Apparently, English author Horace Walpole coined the the word serendipity. In a letter of January 28, 1754, Walpole says that “this discovery, indeed, is almost of that kind which I call Serendipity, a very expressive word.” Walpole formed the word on an old name for Sri Lanka, Serendip. He explained that this name was part of the title of “a silly fairy tale, called The Three Princes of Serendip: as their highnesses traveled, they were always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things which they were not in quest of….”

William Boyd later coined the term zemblanity to mean somewhat the opposite of serendipity: “making unhappy, unlucky and expected discoveries occurring by design”. It derives from Novaya Zemlya (or Nova Zembla), a cold, barren land with many features opposite to the lush Sri Lanka (Serendip).

May serendipity always prevail over zemblanity in your creative endeavours.
