My son has had chicken and fish. I am vegetarian and was wondering if quorn is ok for him to have as well as the other things? I forgot to ask the health visitor today! Thanks

  1. I disagree with the people above. I was raised as  vegetarian and my mother sought advice from a nutritionist and my diet as a child was very healthy. Quorn will also be fine. The only advice i can offer is don't tell him he cant have meat, then he'll just want it more! Just (when hes old enough) explain why you dot eat mean and why a vegetarian diet is healthier. But make it clear if he wants to try meat products then that's okay. Esp when hes old enough to start going to kids parties an things like that.

  2. Quorn is OK in that it won't cause harm. However, babies and children need concentrated nutrition that they'll really only get from meat and fish. Vegetarianism is fine as an adult choice but it shouldn't be forced on children.

  3. Hi

I was wondering the same myself so looked into it. Quorn contains gluten so I would wait untill he is at least 7-8months before giving him Quorn.

I will be doing the same.

  4. dont force vegetarian options on him allow him to eat meat it is natural for humans to eat meat and in most cases vital for proper nutrients such a protein and iron and zinc, one of joys of eating is tasting meat such as beef and chicken and all other types, though depends on his age if he can eat solids

  5. Yes, the vegetarian options of protein are fine. It is good that you have not limited him to your vegetarian lifestyle yet. Fish is a wonderful form of protein. Eggs are also after a year. Boots also makes a fish oil supplement for babies 6 months-5years. I give that to my baby that I keep now every day.

  6. Mash it up, mash it up!!!

As your a vegie, you mus'nt not give him meat products. he needs a healthy balanced diet when growning up including meat...

REd Meat, not just white meat... he needs it all ...everything...

  7. I was wondering the same thing.  I'm about to wean my daughter, and fully intend for her to eat all kinds of meat, but i'm vegetarian, and several of the meals i cook, i use quorn as the protein.  From what i've managed to find on the internet, its fine (apart from the gluten which may be a problem in younger babies, but its of little nutritional value to a growing baby (very low calorie, even though its a good source of protein).   Babies need calories though.  So ive concluded its fine for me to feed her it maybe once a week as part of a balanced meal, but i'll be trying to give her meat and other proteins the rest of the time.

  8. Hi - firstly don't listen to the carnivore army. I am a meat eater but I send my daughter to a vegetarian nursery. I made that choice because I would prefer to know that she isn't fed cheap cuts or processed meat. Since the age of 6 months she had had Quorn and soy products but only once a week for each. The rest of the week the children get their protein from pulses and legumes, oh and occasionally fish. If a 43 place day care nursery feeds the children with quorn and soy mince and they are all fine then that's good enough for me. Hindu's are vegetarian and there are an enormous number of them. Do their children require meat?

  9. Yes it it fine to give him.

As for those who state that humans 'need meat' -what rubbish. I have never had an ounce of meat in my life, was vegan throughout pregnancy and am a very very healthy 25 year old woman with a very healthy child. If we need it so much, how do you explain my health?! What a joke....

And to those who say to 'give their child the choice'- by feeding them meat are you not taking away their choice to *not* eat meat?! Whatever we feed out children, we are making that choice for them- that is one of our roles as parents. Personally, I know that a vegetarian diet is healthier, so have chosen that for my daughter until she is able to make the choice herself.
