  1. I found my mother without opening up closed records.  I tried to get the help of the courts and the agency involved but they were very nasty and told me to go away.

Funnily enough when I found my mother she had attempted to find information about me just like I had and had received the same rude treatment.

We are very happy and lucky to have found each other despite the State attempting to block us from finding each other.  It's time for the archaic laws to change.

There are legal albeit long-winded ways to search and find despite closed records.   Closed records cannot keep people who really want to find each other from doing so - it's just a shame that we are not afforded the luxury and civil right of freedom of association that the rest of the population take for granted.

If you need any search help, there is plenty of support out there, just ask.

  2. My adoption was in California, which has the very same laws as NYS.  I found my first family without getting my records.  Anastasia suggested a good Website for general support, including search support, for adopted people.

  3. i have.

come to adult adoptees if you want.  you can get some help there.  adultadoptees.org

  4. Yes,i was born in NYS and traced my mother without any "official" help.it took 12 years, but that was before the internet was accessible, and once i stated to use computers,it changed everything..it was just down to luck really, posting my details on many adopion sites.my half bio sister typed in my birth name, hospital and date of birth ,etc, and got matched up to my details.i guess it really helps if the bio family are searching too,but it shows it is worth it to get your details on as many adoption sites as possible.

  5. Mine was closed in Guam it was only through the internet I found them. http://www.adoptive-parenting.com
