  1. my friends son had the same phobia when he was a small child...I don't know very much about it but i do know he grew out of it as he got older...he is now 17yrs..your friend needs to read up on anything about this phobia so she can be of some help to her daughter..she could also speak to some professionals that could advice her

  2. I don't have any experience with button phobias, but my friend's child is terrified of the book A Bad Case of Stripes. It's weird what people can be afraid of. My friend just slowly tried to expose her child to the book and it is getting a little better.

  3. I read in a magazine about a woman who had a terrible fear of buttons, this was because when she was younger a jar of buttons fell and landed next to her head as she was sleeping.  Its seemed to affect her life quite badly she couldnt go place where there would be buttons, one example she gave was the her bf at the time wanted to take her to a hotel but she wouldnt go incase the matress had buttons on.  Very extreme i know it seemed to almost ruin her life i think in the end she got some hypnotherapy and then was fine.

I wouldn't worry too much, this phobia is more common than you think, she may grow out of it.  Otherwise try and find out the cause  of the phobia.

Also you could try getting her to do some activities with buttons, like a sticking picture or threading if the buttons are large enough to try and get her to overcome her fear.

    Hope this helps!

  4. This sounds like a sensory issue.

  5. I have a phobia to, but mine are with chocolate buttons this is due to me having loads of button easter eggs as a kid.

I cant even pass them in any shop without curling up in to a ball

  6. I have a life long phobia about them.  (Big buttons)

I know now that it was because of a traumatic event when I was very young...but this phobia has caused me to end relationships because the girl had a cardigan I couldn't stand!

Weird!  I have just posted a question along the same lines!!!!

  7. I have heard of this - someone in our knitting circle is the same way. She'll either grow out of it, or find ways of her own to manage it.

  8. The daughter should seek help regarding her phobia.
