  1. Hi there,

First, at a walk practice watching ,with your peripheral vision, your horse's shoulders move foreward and back. Then, still at a walk, try to feel the movement  with your seat and legs. When you have a little confidence at that, balance yourself by holding a little mane close to the saddle and trot. With your peripheral vision again, choose one shoulder to rise with. Should be outside shoulder. This is called your diagonal. As you trot look forward, not down. DON'T FORGET TO BREATH. Try to keep your body as relaxed as possible. Gripping tightly with your legs tends to pop you up out of the saddle.

There is an excellent book called "Centered Riding" by Sally Swift. Not expensive and easy to understand.

    Hope this helps

  2. you don't need to rise very high just so your buts off the saddle and in time with the horse, also try gripping the horses belly tighter
