Get a tour guide to introduce local history, culture, eating, shopping etc.

  3. Hi,

Welcome to Thailand. Thailand is a land of smile and happy people.  ^_^

    Tips

1.) The weather is HOT and HUMID in Thailand. You should bring summer clothes. Short sleeves clothings. Although, I don't encourage to wear hot pants in Thailand. Thai men may stare at you. haha :)

2.) The food is HOT and SPICY. You should tell them to cook mind food. The famous Thai food are Tom Yum Goong, Pad Thai, curry and rice.

3.) When you shopping at outdoor markets, bargain your goods with the sellers, just like buying a car because they expect you to do so.

4.) Learn to speak some Thai language: Hi = Sawasdee ka, Thank you = Kub Khun Ka, Good Bye = La Kron ka, Where is the restroom = Hong num you tee nai ka.

5.) Carry bugs spray with you. Thailand is a jungle of SE Asia. We have many exotic bugs.

Hope, you have a great time in Thailand. Take care

  4. There is nothing better than food stalls along Bangkok's streets. BBQ pork and meat balls on skewers, deep fried chicken, pancake, roti, fried noodle, noodle, Papaya Salad, and many more. The best places to find a good variety of food stalls include Vachira - Dusit (near St Gabriel College), Khao San Road, Chatuchak Market, Tong Lo, Suan Lum Night Bazaar, Soi Rang Nam, Siam Square, Pratunaam and Chinatown.

When you are in Bangkok, walk as much as you can. Do not do as most tourists and visitors who only move by taxi or tuk-tuk. Walking around Bangkok, you will find more interesting things than you have ever imagined. The hidden Bangkok is really not far from the tourist streets but there are no tourists there. Just a couple of blocks from the main roads, you will find rows of market stalls and restaurants with more authentic foods, people and goods than the tourist traps can offer.

If you need more info about Thailand, try this http://www.discovery-thailand.com , they also have great discount on hotel booking, up to 80% off.

  5. What kind of traveling are you doing? Are you a backpacker or budget traveler?  If so, I suggest taking the local buses and trains to get to your destination. It's cheap and not bad at all.  I also suggest you visit Nong Khai in Northern Thailand and stay at Mut Mee's Guesthouse.  It's the nicest and cosiest guesthouse I've ever been.  There, you can rent a bike and see the town that way.  Or take a day and cross the border to Laos and see the capital city Vientienne (might've spelled this wrong...sorry) and visit the Buddha park (which have different size statues of Buddha's).  Another favorite place of mine to visit is Ayutthaya.  I suggest you rent a bike there too because the mini-temples are quite magnificent and are pretty spread out.  It was the best and safest solo trip I've ever taken as a woman :).

  7. Always negotiate price in advance and don't be afraid to negotiate.  For example a tuktuk will always overcharge you after the ride but if you start walking away after he give you a price the price will come down.

Don't let anyone take you where you don't want to go.  Taxis and Tuk Tuks supplement there income by delivering you to dodgy gem, clothing (and for men s*x shops).  Its a come on and the merchandise is inferior(well maybe not the s*x places but you get my drift).  Much of this has been stopped but some of it still goes on.

Taxis are all metered and are suppose to use the meter.  If a taxi starts negotiation on price your going to overpay and he is doing something illegal.  Some of the taxis are mafia around the temples, don't let them con you. There's a number you can call and they fine the taxi driver I think its 1568 but its on all public transportation.  Get the number of the taxi.

When you get a good taxi driver give him a little something extra for the effort.  They have families and the taxi jobs are killing them so be kind.
