The main problem is that the fabric conditioner section is really gunky and i cant get it clean. Ive tried to pour boiling water through the gaps and wiped the top with paper towel but that was useless. Any ideas and general tips for the full machine would be great.

  2. Step1

Set your washing machine to the largest load setting and then turn it on, allowing it to completely fill with hot water and begin to agitate.

    Step2

Open the lid on the washing machine and add 3 to 4 cups of white vinegar and 1/2 to 1 cup of baking soda to the water. Allow it to agitate for a few minutes and then shut the machine off. Let the solution sit inside the machine for an hour or two.

    Step3

Restart the washing machine and let it complete the wash cycle and fully drain. Shut off the machine again.

    Step4

Remove the fabric softener dispenser and the bleach dispenser if your machine has one. Wash both of these with a 50/50 solution of hot water and white vinegar.

    Step5

Use a clean rag, wet with the water and vinegar solution, to wipe the inside of the machine. Be sure to wipe all surfaces including the blades of the agitator, the top rim of the wash bucket and the lid of the machine. Put the fabric softener and bleach dispensers back into place.

    Step6

Run the empty washing machine one more time using hot water.

When you are cleaning your washing machine, it is a good time to check all of the hoses for wear or damage. Most manufacturers recommend changing your washing machine hoses ever five years.

    Clean a Clothes Dryer

    Step1

Vacuum the entire dryer. Add a brush attachment to the vacuum. Vacuum the barrel, the lint catch, under the lint catch, the little air vents throughout the dryer, and the hose attachment in the back of the dryer.

    Step2

Go outside and clean the dryer vent. Use a new toilet bowl brush, narrow broom, or other clean utensil to remove lint caught in the vent. Vacuum out other debris in the hose. Cover the vent with a flap or chicken coop wiring to prevent anything from getting into the vent once it is clean.

    Step3

Clean the barrel of the dryer with a damp fabric sheet. Wipe down the inside to remove any leftover color or dyes that clothes may have left inside the barrel.

    Step4

Wipe off the top of the clothes dryer. Use a cleaning wipe or paper towel and cleaning product to clean the surface of the dryer. Place a non-skid mat or towel on top of the dryer to catch the drips from laundry detergent and other products stored on top of the dryer.
