Has anyone gotten the Nostalgia Electrics Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker to work?

So I picked up this nifty appliance the other day on clearance. I thought that it would provide some wholesome family entertainment. We froze the drum for 24 hours, used a recipe from the manual and pretty much totally followed the directions and the thing did not freeze the ice cream. Big frowns in our house. The only thing that my husband did not do was pour the liquid through the top. He actually filled the drum before putting it in. Has anyone had any luck with this appliance? What are we doing wrong?

Store the drum in your freezer for at least 24 hours before you make your ice cream.  It also helps to put the ice cream mixture in the refrigerator for at least 30 min. before you make the ice cream.  Then it works really well.
