  1. Review of 7/31/07 Wedding at the Del Mar

    Hello,

I've been back for a couple of days now, and wanted to post my review for all other Del Mar brides.

First I want to say that I wish I still was in Mexico. Everything was wonderful. The resort is completely amazing, and everyone is so friendly. The wedding went perfect. I could not have asked for anything more.

So, I had my ceremony at the Gazebo, which they call the Wedding Pavillon. I only had 20 guests.

The day I got there I met with Claudia to pick out the cake and flowers.

Their are some extra flowers you can get on the arch, or on the pillars of the Gazebo, but these cost extra. I personally picked the standard flowers because there is really a lot of plants and trees and flowers already around the Gazebo. They turned out beautiful. This meeting lasted for only about an hour.

I had my welcome dinner at the Mexican restaurant. It was magnificent. The service was great, and the food was really good. Claudia booked this in advance.

The day of the ceremony, I went to the spa to have my hair curled. They stylist did not speak English so it was kind of hard to communicate, but in the end it came out exactly how I wanted it. The only things was that to curl (and only curl) my hair costs $90.00. I did not know it was going to costs that much, and would have done it myself, but I didn't inquire before hand, so I guess that's my fault.

Anyway, Reyna came to take my family and bridesmaids to the gazebo. I brought CD's with me, and they played everything that I had selected in the right order. Everything was perfect. We had a blessing ceremony that lasted 20min. Santiago was the minister and he was really good.

My guests went to the lobby bar while we took pictures.

We had the foto shop take the pictures and they weren't that bad. They are good quality, and they look nice. The only thing I wish is that they would've taken more in the moment pictures. Almost all of the pictures they took were posed. We also got the video, which is surprisingly pretty good.

After that we ate at the Gourmet restaurant. We had a private room at the restaurant. They had candles lit, rose petals on the tables, it looked perfect.

We had the cake after dinner in the resruarnt. I picked the strawberry cheesecake. It was really good! All of my guests kept commenting on how good the cake tasted.

After dinner Claudia had a trolly waiting to take us to La Perla (the pool bar) for the cocktail party. The pool was gorgeous at night and Claudia had table clothes and candles on all the tables. The drinks were really good. and the bartenders even danced with us. We had the Dj there and gave him a list and our Cd's to play. They problem was that in the beginning, he mixed our Cd's with the music he had, and some of it was really bad.

When he started playing Ice Ice Baby, I had to tell Claudia to just stick to the list!   We were at La Perla from 8:30 to 10:30. It was really fun. All the guests were dancing and everyone had a good time.

Sorry this is so long. Feel free to ask any questions!

Just Returned - Wedding at the Del Mar (Very Long)

First of all you will not be disappointed by the del mar as a hotel for your wedding it was gorgeous!  we had a group of 13 people leaving from the UK so price was an issue when bookiing, it is the cheapest of the 5 hotels on the resort but it will not disappoint.  I do have a few negative comments to make but the positives far out weigh this.  I'll discuss later

    Location -

Our wedding was held on 8th of June in the Del Mar Gazebo it was gorgeous.  The civil ceremony was held at 4pm so it was a bit cooler but still really warm so be prepared!  I picked the gazebo because it was private, the pathways to the gazebo were blocked so that no passer by could watch the ceremony.  The gazebo is very enclosed with lovely plants and a beautiful water fountain.  For me the beach was too crowded and some of the sunbathers are rude and actually sit right next to where they set up, then you have got the noise of the jet skies flying by and boats etc.  We watched a few beach weddings while we were there and they were beautiful but it's really individual preference where to have it.  we were away for 2 weeks and all wedding that were held were done on the beach apart from ours, it's the most popular.

    Wedding Meal -

We picked the gourmet restaurant and we loved it.  If you have a small party you get to sit in the private room that they have.  The meal was delicious but it's a set 5 course meal so no picking your choices.  Table was decorated beautifuly but i recommend bringing some of your own things to give it your own personal touch.  Waiter staff were excellent and never any empty glasses.  I wouln't recommend the steak hourse for your wedding meal, there is no air con and you will sweat like mad - no bride wants to be like that!

    Photographer -

For me the foto shop was not the best but then i was warned that picture quality abroad is not quite the same as the UK and of course given the price then you can't expect perfect.  I just felt that they didn't have many ideas for taking fun pictures or different poses we came up with our own poses and i felt that they could have had us in better positions for some pictures, e.g in some my head was too high or my arm too high.  I recommed the gazebo, the beach and the pool waterfall for picture locations

    Wedding Co-Ordinator -

She was just brilliant!  For any of you who are worried aboutt not getting replies to e-mails, please do not worry.  When you arrive a meeting is set up so that you can discuss everything about your wedding and if you have any extra things you would like done just ask, they will try to accomodate you if they can

    Some Tips -

Bring a CD of your own music for before the ceremony and after

Bring some table decorations from home

Make sure you watch a beach wedding and visit the gazebo before deciding on location, i recommend you visit all restaurant too

Just relax and enjoy your day - it will be perfect

I don't know if i have missed anything, there's too much to say!

  2. Yes, i got married at the Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar, Riviera Maya in April 2006.  It is a fantastic place for a wedding.  I actually stayed there the previous year and fell in love with the place which is why I ended up marrying my husband there.

During that time, the weather was gorgeous.  It was probably around 90 degrees and we had no rain.  We stayed there for 2 weeks when we got married.

You have two options where you can get married at the ocean or in the gazebo.  We chose the ocean and it was a beautiful setting.  The gazebo is also gorgeous because of all the colorful flowers and the palm trees around the gazebo.  The flowers were absolutely breathtaking for my bouquet.  I picked the colors (because I don't know allot about flowers) and they did the arrangement which I couldn't have asked for a better bouquet.

Our pictures are also amazing there.  We had them taken in several parts of the resort.  Some were by the ocean, the pool, a bridge, the flamingos in the lobby and various other spots.  We have the negatives along with probably 100 pictures that they printed for us which are bigger than a 5 by 7.  We also had them record our service which was amazing.  We showed it to our family that couldn't attend the trip and they did a great job editing it.

You can also choose the cake as well as the place for the dinner.  We chose the steakhouse because everyone liked steak and some didn't like seafood.  My cake was beautiful and very great tasting...it was strawberry with real straberries throughout.

I would say the only downfall is getting the wedding coordinator to respond back to us.  Sometimes I had to send her a few emails to get a response.  That was mainly due to her taking care of wedding that were before ours.  We got down there about 4 days before the wedding just to make sure everything was perfect and my hair appointment was set at the salon.  They do an amazing job at the salon and couldn't have asked for a better up-do.  When I got there, everything was taken care of so I just worried about enjoying vacation.

If you get married at this resort, you won't be disappointed.  If you have any other questions about this resort or weddings at this resort, don't hesitate to ask me.
