Has anyone had an amniocentesis?

...and what was your experience of it like?

Im having one done on Tuesday morning. Ive read up and researched as much as i can but would like to hear from people who have experienced it first hand.

I had one with my 4th child.

It was weird actually.

I was really nervous and they were cleaning my belly with Betadine (antiseptic) and I was telling the doctor to be really careful because I was worried I would flinch and it would hurt the baby and he laughed and said he was already in with the needle.

I honestly did not feel it.

It did feel quite sickly though as they were drawing up the liquid.

Luckily the results were fine.

I haven't but two of my cousins did.  They said it wasn't really that bad at the time but they did loose the babies a couple of days after wards which is a big risk you take with one.

Yes i have had 2, and neither one of them hurt if that is wot u r worried about, u just get a slight discomfort thats all. And u get to c ur baby on scan while they r doin it, so u can get reassurance of where the needle is goin. Its totally fine dont worry x*x
