If so, is it painful? How long is the process? Anything I should know before going in?

  1. I am sure that everyone has different experiences with the HSG.  But, as for me, it was not that bad.  During the procedure, it was mildly uncomfortable.  Kind of like someone pushing on your stomach roughly.  Approx. 15 minutes after the procedure, I got some sharp cramps--like really bad menstral cramps.  Took some Advil, and everything calmed down.  Good luck!

  2. Is this the test where they check to see if your tubes are open? If so, then yes, it is very painful. Take Motrin or Advil before and have plenty on hand after. Make sure someone goes with you for support to hold their hand. If I had to do it again, I would ask for valium and heavy pain medication. Sorry to be so negative, but it is pretty painful if it's the test I think your talking about. Good luck to you.

  3. hi there...

    it's called hsg..

i'm supposed to undergo hsg for my next cycle.is it true it's painful?oh my goodness, answerer 1 and 2, you are making me nervous...

anyway good luck if you are going to do hsg...baby dust!!

  4. hsg (hysterosalpingogram)  is very painful.  it feels like really bad menstrual cramps when they pump it up in you.  .  you will cramp after wards and  during the procedure.  you will bleed a little.

they told me to take motrin one hour before the procedure.  i say you call and ask about taking pain meds beforehand.

  5. Do you mean an x-ray?  I can't remember what they are called.  With iodine?

Yes.  And yes, it hurts.  It's pretty much like bad cramps.  I would take some tylenol beforehand.

  6. An HSG and a hysterosonogram are different procedures.  I would take an over the counter pain reliever before having either.

The following site has a patient information page, which describes the hysterosonogram.  It has a fairly detailed and correct information on the procedure:

    http://www.radiologyinfo.org/en/info.cfm...

  7. An HSG isn't an ultrasound.  It's an x-ray (using radiation [VERY low dose] rather than soundwaves to visualize the uterus and tubes.

It is somewhat painful (anything that opens the cervix is painful), and takes a few minutes.  The doctor will tell you any specific preparation that might be necessary.
