I just wondered if anyone had taken the plunge and decided to live in a motor home on a permanent basis, based in the U.K.

  1. tango is right here. no more junk mail! magic.

  2. Yes, I lived in mine(33'Georgie Boy Landau with slide) for 3 months in this country before I got fed up with the petty council rules and having to up sticks on a monthly basis to satisfy site regulations.  The main problem in this country is that you can't 'wild camp' even if you have the facilities.

I was lucky enough to have a friend with an acre of land which he said I could live on rent free, I was totally self sufficient with an onboard genny and citygas converter and all was well until 2 days after I arrived the planning man started to hound me.  It would seem that even on private land with the owners permission with no neighbours within a mile you cannot live in a camper unless you apply for planning permission and change of use.  I was given a month to quit or be forcefully evicted.

So, option 2 was a local site.  Here you had to move off site once a month to satisfy regulations and if you were living there had to declare it to the council in order to pay tax (there is NO escape from council tax), also the monthly site fees were only around £20 cheaper than my mortgage.

So all in all in this country it is a nightmare, go over to the the continent and it is a different story - you can most often wild camp wherever you like without being moved on, and if you want to make a site your home you can do so without having to pack everything up once a month just to return a day later to level up and unpack again.

Sadly this country is getting worse too, in some areas in England you can't even park your RV on your drive or in your garden without first getting planning permission - and that is just to park it up!  let the kids sleep in it overnight and you are in big trouble!

  3. i dont but my f-inlaw lives in a static caravan for 11 months of the year ( he has to leave the site because it closes for a month) he loves it and his home has everthing including c heating, internet and a bath, we have also been thinking of doing the same but traveling round a bit, i think you should just do it as long as you leave yourself enouth money if you dont like it, if you dont do it now then you will always be thinking about it good luck

  4. No but it sounds like a good idea. I can't imagine life without a letter box, it must be heaven.

  5. Not yet but strangely enough I have been seriously thinking about selling the house abd buying a 32 foot motorhome, I have always wanted a Winnebago but the servicing and spares concern me, I am always looking on the net.
