If so please help. I have a name I'm looking up. John Hoey. He came to NE England during the potato famine. Obviously alot of records were destroyed in Ireland so I'm finding it pretty hard to trace him.

Any advice??

  1. no why. actually im scottish and i  think i will thanks for the idea

  2. One thing that I did when tracing my ancestry was something that seems pretty simple but worked great.  I did a Google search of the  ancestors name that I had to find anything on him and ended up finding other people online who were related to him and they were also tracing their genealogy.  We shared information and it extended my family tree back almost 200 years from where it had been.  Good luck

  3. GO TO: WWW.ANCESTRY.COM

they have a large data bank on irish ancestors

  4. I've had alot of difficulty finding my Irish g. g. grandparents.  First thing you need to do is talk to any living relatives and write down everything you can find.  www.nehgs.org has been very helpful.  It's all about new england ancestors.  It's a pay site but, well worth the money.  I've found things on there that aren't on ancestry.com.
