Has anyone had batteries go dead in a Ford Excursion that also made your transmission go

This happened last week and after replacing the batteries and alternator the transmission went and It cost $900.00 to get it going again.

I just wondering if I got screwed or if this can truly cause the trans. parts to go.

  1. no changing a battery cannot cause a transmission to go out,it can erase the memory for the computer though,if it did damage to the computer system i could see this ,but i have never heard of this happening to anyone else,i would like to know what they actually done to it to get it going though, good luck.

  2. Lets just say that sludge dont happen over night or in a matter of minutes. When was the last time the trans fliud was flushed and the filter changed? The two concerns are NOT related!

  3. Check with a shop having first hand dealing with this specific issue.  I have heard of this problem with some Ford trucks after a battery swap.  It has something to do with a resetting of the computer system that needs to take place when a battery is changed out.  After the swap, let the vehicle run 15-20 minutes for the computer to reset before driving.  I am passing on second hand information here, so I may not have it exact.

  4. Changing the battery in your excursion will not make the transmission fail, despite what the guy just said.  He is talking about adaptive strategy and the adaptive strategy is set over time and it changes shift points, shift firmness, ect. to match your driving style.  If the adaptive strategy is erased, which has to be done with a scan tool(unless the battery is removed for an extremely long time) the PCM defaults to a default strategy and relearns the strategy while DRIVING not while sitting still.  Its kinda hard for the pcm to learn how you drive when the vehicle IS NOT moving.

  5. you got screwed ..... one has nothing to do with the other it should have been one or  the other the battery bad or the alternator and neither would have anything to do with the transmission you got taken three times

  6. i suspect you didnt take it to a ford dealer, and if you did you should have a good explanation why,,

the only thing that will connect it to the battery is when a fuse or relay got burned or shorted,,and it will show on the tester..and if the tech is not familliar with the car ,they will do things that will cost you as what you said, and later  they only replace a fuse...after all the work they had.....
