Question:

Has anyone had experience with bringing dog to UK?

I did everything under "UK Pet Travel Scheme" rules (Passport, vaccination against rabis and etc).

Just one problem. The rule is "A dog or cat may not enter or re-enter the UK under PETS until 6 calendar months have passed from the date that the blood sample which gave a satisfactory test result was taken."

But I have an official record of the result of a blood test for him, carried out on a sample taken on Aguste 04, 2008.

I want to know how this "six months rules" is serious? Do I have any chance to bring my dog WITHOUT quarantine end of this month? Has anyone had experience with this?

(I am in Czech Republic and my dog is a small healthy Maltese.)

  1. Kamal, I think I can help you out here again ;)

I'm afraid the 6 month rule is absolutely serious. If you break the rule in any way you will be prosecuted and your dog could be destroyed without your consent. Please do not consider anything other than the legal procedure, it's not worth the risk :(

Ok, there's a system called 'fast track' whereby you may take your dog to the UK before the 6 months is up, but the dog will have to stay in a specially registered quarantine kennel. I believe (but please check this yourself) that fast track can reduce the time to just a few days or perhaps weeks as the kennels will undertake special procedures to have the dog processed and released quicker.

First, you need to contact some registered kennels in the area of the UK you'll be staying in - this is easy enough to do through google search but check the DEFRA pages as they should have some info there. Then you'll have to decide if you can afford to do this, as it's going to be expensive, again, I've no experience coz as you know I took my dog with me after the 6 month period.

Here is an example of one such kennels:

I suggest you contact them in the first place to investigate the costs and the time involved, and if they are not in the area of the UK you expect to live, ask them to put you in touch with another kennels - they should have this information and be willing to help you.

What a pity you didn't know about the 6 month rule earlier, really hope you get this sorted out and wish you lots of luck in my home-country, with your dog of course :)
