I am considering becoming a CASA volunteer aside from my 9-5 job with a non-profit youth agency. I have a degree in CJ and think this will be a great fit as far as things I'm passionate about and will surely help keep me in touch with the area my degree is in...anyone had experience with CASA or a similar agency? What's it typically like?

  1. Wonderful program.

Heart wrenching at times.  But ever so needed.

Your training would make you ever so valuable.

Our local Kiwanis club helps sponsor CASA.

The one case that I know of personally turned out great.  The biggest fear that these people had was their own ignorance of the court system.  Especially hard on kids.  The parents both were grateful that CASA was there as an unbias party solely dedicated on their children.  This particular case worked out better than anyone would have guessed.

  2. I have two friends who sat on the CASA board and they said it was rewarding but very time intensive.

  3. I have friends that live in Maryland, he was a CASA member.  I can only tell you how much he loved the experience and making a difference in a child's life.  I don't believe he would ever stop doing it either, he is grounded in their principals.

With your degree, I am sure you would be perfect for this and will love it.  Congratulations!
