Has anyone had flies on there golden rod plants ?

i had to cut down my golden rod plants as they were covered in flies only on the flower they looked like small bluebottles but as this as not happen before i wonder if anyone else has had the same proble

  1. Those flies are quite normal, I always have flies on my golden rod, but this year there are many more because it has been wet and that favours fly breeding. They are harmless and enjoying themselves, if they are sitting on the flowers they are not sitting on something nasty - think about it. What a shame you ruined your golden rod for no good reason.

  3. Don't know why you cut them down.  Flies are just eating the nectar from the flowers, doing no harm to you.
